Project Description: This project aims to develop a permanent karner blue butterfly (KBB) dispersal corridor to link isolated populations, maintain permanent KBB habitat, and to restore hydrologic processes along Iron Run Creek.
Proposed Project: Wild lupine seed would be collected and planted along approximately 16,000 linear feet of power line ROW, firebreaks would be established around long-term KBB management areas, and prescribed burns would be conducted in 2 KBB units. In addition, the project aims to restore hydrologic processes by removing water control structures on 2 flowages.
Progress: To date, lupine seed has been colleted and planted along power line ROW via the combined efforts of the Clark County Forestry Department, The Clark County Land Conservation Department, and Dairyland Power Inc. Lupine establishment is expected through this planting.
This planting is expected to benefit the federally endangered karner blue butterfly and other rare Lepidoptera that require this plant for a host.
