Will endorsing Teaming with Wildlife involved my organization in politics?

Only in the sense that funding for State Wildlife Grants comes partly from state and federal government. Endorsing Teaming with Wildlife is not like making a political endorsement. By endorsing TWW, your organization is saying that it is concerned about wildlife protection and thinks that wildlife conservation should be a priority for government. In that sense, endorsing Teaming with Wildlife is a way to stay civically engaged in the world around us.

There are opportunities to become politically involved in advocating for increased funding for wildlife habitat protection. To participate in these opportunities is a decision each TWW member makes for his or her own organization. While advocating for increased wildlife funding is an important function of TWW, it is not the only function. We hope you will consider advocating for wildlife habitat funding, but you are not required to.

What kinds of organizations join Teaming with Wildlife?

Teaming with Wildlife is a broad-based coalition. Since the Action Plan protects habitat, bed & breakfasts, tourism-related businesses, guiding services, garden clubs, land trusts, watershed groups, and conservation organizations join. Since wildlife is protected, sportsmen and women clubs, fishing groups, and bird watchers join. The only prerequisite is a genuine concern for wildlife and special natural places.

What does Teaming with Wildlife do?

The Teaming with Wildlife coalition works to secure increased funding for wildlife and habitat protection. It also will work to implement Massachusetts’s Wildlife Action Plan. Our goal is for members of the TWW coalition to come together and build partnerships to more efficiently and effectively protect wildlife habitat. The TWW coalition is one venue in which people can learn about other habitat projects going on across the state and find ways to participate.

What will my organization be required to do?

Nothing. By lending your name to our coalition and stating your concern for wildlife protection, you are already participating. There are opportunities to help with spread the word about TWW, lead nature walks, help implement the Wildlife Action Plan, advocate for increased funding from their state legislators and Congressmen, and aid in managing protected land. We hope you will also consider participating in some of those TWW activities as well.

What will I get out of joining the Teaming with Wildlife coalition?

By joining the Teaming with Wildlife coalition, your organization or business will be connected with the other organizations that have joined. It is a great way to network, meet other groups doing similar work, and find ways to partner together. By advocating for increased funding for wildlife protection, you may see the benefits of that money through projects you work on with the Division of Fish and Wildlife or other conservation partners. Your name will included in all of the publicity and promotional materials, so it’s a great way to get known as a supporter of wildlife and habitat!
