Mississippi River Bluffland Restoration

This project was created to restore and maintain high quality natural communities contained within twenty-four State Natural Areas.  The SNA’s along the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers protect some of the best remaining examples of natural communities in Wisconsin.  Work is needed to maintain and enhance these communities and maintain habitat for up to sixty species of greatest conservation need.

Baraboo River Restoration

The objective of the restoration is to remove the Linen Mill Dam and restore the reach of the Baraboo River in that vicinity. This will in effect restore 120 miles of the Baraboo River to fish migration and use that was historically present 100-150 years ago before the dams were built on the river.

Waupaca River Greater Redhorse Distribution

Historically, the state-threatened greater redhorse (Moxosyoma valenciennesi) were reported in the Waupaca River system as far upstream as Cary Pond on the Crystal River in the city of Waupaca.  In 1971, a carp (Cyprinus carpio) eradication project on the Waupaca River system was believed to have eliminated greater redhorse from the Waupaca River above the Weyauwega Dam.

Restoring Prairie and Savanna Communities in Southern Wisconsin: Targeting Invasive Herbacous Plants

Over the next two years, our primary objective for this project is to control (and eradicate when possible) invasive herbaceous exotics on 72 southern Wisconsin sites with remnant plant communities, including 47 primarily state-owned State Natural Areas, 24 Prairie Enthusiast remnants, 1 Nature Conservancy site, and several other sites which Green County Conservation League and Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park actively manage.
