Greater Prairie-Chicken Recovery Efforts
MDC

The Missouri Grasslands Coalition released a report highlighting Greater Prairie-Chicken recovery accomplishments from July 2006 – June 2007. In this time period, grassland and prairie-chicken conservation attracted $2.5 million to Grasslands Coalition Focus Areas. Of that, over $635,000 was made available by State Wildlife Grants through Wildlife Diversity Funds and Missouri Bird Conservation Initiative grants. Accomplishments include new habitats protected, more intensive management on public and private grasslands and new partnerships forged. This work is not only benefiting prairie-chickens, but also an entire suite of grassland birds including Dickcissel, Upland Sandpiper, Northern Bobwhite Quail, Henslow's Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark and many others.
