Getting the Word out about Indiana's Wildlife Action Plan

IWF

Indiana's Wildlife Action Plan was approved in 2006. Since then, the Indiana Wildlife Federation has been working to educate the public on the important issues facing our state. There have been several different approaches to publicizing the plan, and collectively they have managed to reach a wide variety of groups and individuals. If you would like to help spread the word about Indiana's Wildlife Action Plan, try out one or more of these strategies.

Make presentations to potentially interested groups.
The Indiana Wildlife Federation is currently making presentations to all of our affiliate groups. We hope to have all of our groups in support of Teaming With Wildlife (TWW) within the year. We are also searching for new supporters. Potentially interested groups may include conservation clubs, gardening clubs, student groups, church groups, local businesses, or environmental firms to name a few. If you are interested in offering information to a group, feel free to use the resources below:

Write an article for a newspaper or newsletter.
For nearly a year now, the Indiana Wildlife Federation has been including a TWW article in each issue of our magazine, Hoosier Conservation. The articles began as an introduction to the TWW concept, and now focus on current issues and updates. This is a great way to keep interested parties informed while recruiting new support.

Set up booths at local events.
The Indiana Wildlife Federation attends several events each year, including sporting good shows, gardening seminars, and other natural resource related events. Dedicating a portion of our booth to the TWW coalition is an effective way to reach a large number of people. We offer general information on the State Wildlife Action Plan and Teaming with Wildlife, as well as brochures and endorsement forms for individuals to take.

Speak with groups or businesses at local events.
Local shows and seminars are a great place to find numerous businesses, clubs, and organizations all gathered in one place. One of the Indiana Wildlife Federation's great volunteers recently attended the Indiana Boat, Sport, and Travel Show, and personally spoke with the representatives at individual booths. He introduced the program, gave them a fact sheet, and answered their questions. With his great work, we were able to obtain 25 new TWW endorsements in only a few days!
